Titon contemplates forthcoming revised Building Regulations 03/2010

Despite fevered speculation about dates for the General Election, Titon believes that the proposed changes to the Building Regulations will be confirmed in legislation before Parliament dissolves. Titon recommends keeping up to date on the changes by bookmarking its dedicated regulations website:

Following the consultation review process and any final decisions that arise in the interim, Titon expects that Approved Document Part F (Ventilation) 2010 revisions to the Building Regulations are likely to be completed before Parliament dissolves. Previous timetables from the Department for Communities and Local Government, which is responsible for the Regulations, have aimed publication of the document for April 2010, with the new regulations coming into effect in October of the same year.

Titon expect a revised format, with a new layout, which will make it easier to follow the guidance, along with full advice for each system shown in its own table. Among several technical changes Titon expects the final document to incorporate new guidance for increased ventilation provision in very airtight dwellings, (which the 2006 regulations did not cover).

Titon also anticipates the adoption of a new initiative, The Domestic Ventilation Installation and Compliance Guide, shown in the consultation package. This new document is likely to give installation and commissioning guidance for each system outlined in the Approved Document. The company also expects particular emphasis to be placed on continuous mechanical ventilation systems. In order to provide adequate ventilation in very airtight buildings it is vital that any “purpose-provided” ventilation system has been correctly installed and commissioned. It is expected that this new document will accompany the Approved Document.
