Titon’s Vent-Trex Boosts Efficiency and Indoor Air Quality In Greenwich - June 2016

Over 2,000 Vent-Trex combined overhead extract fans and trickle ventilators from Titon have been installed as part of an extensive refurbishment project at the Barnfield Estate in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The products have been incorporated as part of a £2million window replacement programme in 17 blocks of flats, overseen by Norfolk-based contractors Ashford Commercial Ltd.

The project saw all single-glazed windows replaced by new, A-rated VEKA Infinity versions (made from 80% recycled material), utilising Vent-Trex over-window bathroom and kitchen fan options from Titon. Roof and external wall insulation was also added, to further improve energy efficiency.

Commenting on the project, Trevor Ranns, Commercial Manager at Ashford Commercial Ltd, said: "We fitted both bathroom and kitchen versions of Vent-Trex, as they were specified as good products when used in conjunction with the external wall insulation in the buildings. The units allowed the buildings to keep a good aesthetic profile - plus they removed any need to drill through the walls for conventional extract fans, which would have compromised the effectiveness of the insulation."

He continued: "The properties were also suffering from problems with mould, damp and condensation; fortunately, Vent-Trex helps eliminate such issues, with their humidistat functionality measuring any changes in humidity, then adjusting the fan speed accordingly to ensure a healthier indoor environment."

Easy to clean and maintain, Vent-Trex is a unique combined overhead extract fan and trickle ventilator for kitchens and bathrooms that fits discreetly within the window aperture on top of the window frame itself. It is ideal for refurbishment situations where wall penetration is undesirable, as it does not damage the fabric of the building or where external aesthetics need to be preserved.

Units provide a trickle ventilation performance Equivalent Area (EA) of 2500mm² minimum and extract ventilation rates to suit either kitchen or bathroom offering compliance via one product.

Vent-Trex has undergone rigorous testing and is CE marked and IP rated to IP24, with all relevant electrical standards met within these tests. It also complies with the background and extract ventilation requirements of the Building Regulations.
